ABOUT THE COURSE |
|
Approved by the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu & A.I.C.T.E (All India Council for Technical Education). This is a three-year course in Mechanical Engineering, leading to the award of a diploma by the Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE), Government of Tamil Nadu and is phased over six semesters. Students are given theoretical and practical training at the institution.
Mechanical Engineers are required for research, development, designing and manufacturing engines, machines, and other mechanical devices. They work on power producing machines such as Electric Generators, Internal Combustion Engines, and Steam and Gas Turbines. They also develop power-using machines such as refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, machine tools, material handling systems, elevators and escalators, industrial production equipments etc. D.M.E holders can work in many industries, and the work varies from industry and function. Some specialization includes computer aided design and manufacturing, energy systems, pressure vessels and piping, heating, refrigeration and air-conditioning system |

| FACILITIES |

| Our Labs include Basic workshop lab, Foundry, Welding, Smithy, Fitting shop, Carpentry, sheet metal lab, Machine shop, Engines lab, Heat power and transmission lab and Auto Electrical labs. Diesel lab contains Diesel Fuel Injection Pump Servicing. Various engine models include cut-views and working models of different engines. |

| PROGRAM DESCRIPTION |
| The department of D.M.E (The Polytechnic Division of HIET) teaches basic subjects like English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Technical Drawing and Basic workshops in the first year, Mechanics of Materials, Manufacturing Process, Fluid Mechanics & Power, Machine Drawing, Applied Thermodynamics, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Workshop practicals, in the second year and design of Machine Elements, Thermal Engg., CAD/CAM, Electronics and Project work during the final year. |

| ELIGIBILITY |

Candidates should have passed SSLC / 10th Standard or any other equivalent examination approved by the DOTE, Government of Tamil Nadu. Marks no bar.
The qualifications prescribed above are based on the educational system prevailing in Tamil Nadu. Hence, candidates who have studied in other states are liable to satisfy these minimum requirements, irrespective of the rules prevailing in other states. No relaxation, either in qualifications or in age, shall be permitted and the admissions are subject to the approval of the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu. However, in the case of SC/ST, MBC and BC candidates, the relaxation as stipulated by DOTE will be applicable.
Candidates from other states also can apply for admission. They should produce the Board Certificate apart from other original certificates, T.C and mark sheet. Candidates belonging to SC, ST, MBC, DC & BC from other states will be considered on par with OC candidates of Tamil Nadu with regard to age and marks. (This is subject to guidelines of the DOTE prevalent at the time of admission).
Special Note: Under the 'Lateral Entry Scheme', an additional 10% of seats for candidates each from plus two academic and vocational streams are available for direct admission into 2nd year of DME course. |
